Dr Lisa Doble
(BAppSc (Hons), MBBS, FRANZCOG)

Thank you for visiting my website.

I am an obstetrician and gynaecologist by training but am unable to offer private obstetric care at this time.

I have a science background and then did graduate entry medicine at the University of Melbourne before moving to Queensland to undertake further training in obstetrics and gynaecology. I have worked at Ipswich, the Mater in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and went back to Melbourne to be closer to my family in 2020. In was in Townsville for a year as Professor Rane’s fellow in 2019 landing here on the last plane before they closed the airport due to the 2019 floods.

About me

I feel fortunate to know Beata and Elise. I first met Beata in my first year as an obstetrics/gynaecology registrar at Ipswich Hospital. I used to enjoy calling the switchboard and asking to be put through to Dr Peter-Przyborowska which I was then very proud to be able to spell for them as they could never find it in the directory J.

I was considering joining her practice in 2022 when a greater need presented in Cairns after the passing of Dr Tom Wright. After the closure of the Cairns Private Maternity Unit in October, 2023 which was a traumatic life event for many of us involved, I have filled in for other obstetricians around the country so they could take leave. I have now landed in Townsville and will be offering private gynaecology services and surgical assisting for Elise and Beata so that you will have good surgical care from multiple skilled gynaecologists. The other good news if that if you find that you and are not a ‘good fit’ then you don’t have far to go to find another gynaecologist.

Elise and I met when we worked together as junior doctors prior to both furthering our training in Queensland. We have had similar career trajectories and I share Elise’s dog’s passion for gardening!

Gynaecology

My main area of interest is minimally-invasive surgeries (key-hole surgery), ovarian cysts and endometriosis.  Below is a list of what I am able to offer:

Office Gynaecology

  • Cervical screening tests for complex patients
  • Colposcopy (management of abnormal cervical screening tests) and associated biopsies
  • Vulvoscopy (management of lichen sclerosus) and associated biopsies
  • Chronic pelvic pain management (in conjunction with pelvic floor physio, chronic  pain specialists, dietician)
  • Insertion of long-acting contraceptives (e.g. Mirena, Copper IUD, Implanon)
  • Management of pessaries for prolapse
  • Pre-pregnancy planning
  • Management of heavy periods

Operative Gynaecology

  • Hysteroscopy – for investigation of heavy periods, management of polyps and fibroids inside the uterus
  • Large loop excision of the transformation zone (LLETZ) – for management of abnormal cells on the cervix
  • Ovarian cystectomies – removal of ovarian cysts
  • Tubal ligation - for permanent contraception
  • Endometriosis excision
  • Ablation of the endometrium –for management of heavy periods
  • Hysterectomy (laparoscopic (key-hole), laparotomy (open incision), vaginal)
  • Primary anterior and posterior repairs – first surgeries for prolapse (repeated surgeries may be better managed by a Urogynaecologist, a specialist in pelvic floor repairs)

Obstetrics

Previously I have been a private obstetrician in Cairns from June 2022 – October 2023. Unfortunately, due to work commitments at the Townsville University Hospital, I am unable to offer private obstetric care at this time. Similarly, management of early pregnancy complications such as miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy which require more timely assessment and management are best undertaken by my colleagues.

Personal Interests

I enjoy photography and consider saving the environment we live in to be just as important to health and well-being as working as a doctor. I have just started a website of photographs called “Things with Wings” (thingswithwings.life)

I have a Certificate in Natural Resources Management, love spending time in the outdoors or the water and .
